THE COWSHED was located some 150m west southwest of the homestead. It consisted of a large round yard with a 2m fence, ideal for breaking in horses. A shed containing a calf yard one end and two bails on a concrete floor the other was for milking. Normally we milked from one to six cows depending on the amount of milk required. Three gallons approximately was sufficient for fresh milk and to be able to separate cream for the butter, which was made on the property. Behind, on the western side was a killing yard with gallows and a loading ramp. This is where the fortnightly kill occurred. The kill was generally used by the residents of the property and those of adjoining properties. The carcasses were hung in the meat room at the western end of the garage complex. Ken Moffatt.
