The meat room
THE MEAT ROOM consists of an entry and butchery room. The room is completely sealed with metal gauze. In the meat room was a very solid chopping block cut from a wild apple tree.
A sheep was killed approximately each fortnight initially at the cow shed gallows and later down at the wool shed. Cattle were usually killed in winter, dressed and hung from the gallows over night in the cold night air to set the meat. What could not be eaten was corned or given away to neighbours.
